Areas of Practice

Estate Planning

You may think estate planning is only for wealthy individuals in their golden years. The reality is that all of us would benefit from estate planning. If you die without a will, it will be up to the state to determine what to do with your assets. If you die without a will and have minor children, the state will determine who becomes the legal guardian of your children. If you’re like most people, you probably don’t want the state making those kinds of decisions! I would advise anyone over the age of 18 to, at a minimum, consult with an attorney regarding drafting a will.

Immigration

Whether you would like to file a petition for a family member or apply for citizenship, it is always worth checking with an attorney beforehand. Many people mistakenly think immigration law is “just filling out forms.” On the contrary, immigration law is highly complex and constantly changing. And when it comes to the various applications with USCIS, the devil is often in the details. Checking the wrong box or failing to mention all the facts could lead to a Request for Evidence or even a denial.

Please note that our firm is no longer accepting new immigration law clients at this time.

About Me

Originally from Holland, Michigan, I have practiced law for almost a decade, both in Michigan and in the greater Washington, DC area. I have always been intrigued by how the law works and how it affects so many aspects of our lives—that’s what inspired me to enroll in law school in 2012.

There’s a common misconception that lawyers just fill out paperwork and show up to court hearings, perhaps discussing the finer points of constitutional law with their colleagues in a wood-paneled office. While I enjoy discussing constitutional law as much as the next lawyer, my job as an attorney is to guide you through the legal system and give you personalized advice every step of the way. More than just filling out paperwork, I meet with you, discuss your goals, and help craft the right solution.

There’s a reason lawyers are sometimes referred to as “counselor.” It’s because our duty is to counsel you about your legal problems, your goals, and even your future.

If you would are in need of legal assistance and counsel, I invite you to schedule a consultation with me, by calling (616) 200-6785.
